Dear Mr. Rogers,

I’ll try to keep this short, as I suspect (and truly hope) that are you receiving a lot of letters like this one.

From a business standpoint, you shot yourself in the foot today. You had an opportunity to corner the market for smart phones in Canada by dropping your rates to a reasonable amount (where a reasonable amount is the same rate that is available from AT&T in the US, just as an example). But you blew it. Instead, you’ll (still) be taking advantage of those of us who wish to exchange data on the go.

Thanks to your so-called “new” rates, you just sold one less iPhone. In actual fact, you should know that our staff all carry brand new Blackberry Curve devices with Rogers voice/data service. We were chomping at the bit to replace them with a fleet of iPhones, but with your rates that would just open a bottomless pit of data costs for our software company. We’re not falling for it.

Update: FWIW the rate drop (to a data plan that includes 6GB for $30/mo) wasn’t enough to convince me to enter into a 3-year contract for the iPhone. Still iPhoneless, still content.

May dad always jokes with me that I have had more jobs than anyone else he’s ever known. That’s probably true too, since I have had my share.

I thought it was about time that I list them all, for posterity, before memory fails me. Oddest thing of all, I’ve never been fired from a job, although I have been laid off twice. I usually just move on to the next thing for one reason or another. Moving has played a part in a lot of them, for instance. Also, I like the fact that so many of the jobs in my work history taught me skills that I use in my current career; namely all of the media, marketing and advertising jobs I’ve held over the years.

Jobs I have held:

1. Paperboy
2. Lawnmower/landscaper for hire
3. Clerk/gas jockey
4. Lifeguard/swimming instructor
5. Newspaper Reporter/Photographer
6. Wood chipper operator
7. Marketing rep
8. Bike courier
9. Radio station intern
10. Construction laborer (x4)
11. Telemarketer
12. Valet parker (lasted one day)
13. Bank teller
14. Bike store salesperson
15. Newspaper advertising rep
16. TV news assistant
17. TV station marketing rep
18. TV commercial producer
19. Film production assistant
20. Film/TV actor extra
21. Courier driver
22. Marketing Manager
23. Business owner/social media consultant (currently)
24. Director of community relations (currently).

Inevitably, I’ll be updating this as I remember even more of them. It’s important to note that any time I was doing more than one job at a time, I used a /slash, whereas if I changed jobs while at the same employer, I listed the separately (ie. TV station jobs).

So, is this a long list, or average? I’m tempted to “tag” a few folks and make a meme out of this, but I’ll spare everyone.
